Who is Samantha?

My name is Samantha, and I'm 19 years old.  I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL but I've lived in 5 different states growing up being: Florida, California, Oklahoma, New York, and Massachusetts. I now live in Gloucester, MA and am a resident at Lasell College in Newton,MA.

As a child I was surrounded by artists in my family and aspired to be an artist when I grew up but, eventually I became interested in the fashion industry and now I enjoy painting and drawing in my free time as a hobby.

How do you define a creative?

I define a creative as someone who has a love for the arts, whether that be designing clothing, producing music, or painting a portrait.

Why do you create?

Aside from creating art when I'm "in my feelings" I like to create as a way to express myself. When I look back on the art I've created growing up until now, each piece has meaning behind it and it reflects my emotions or what I was feeling during the time I created the art, almost like a timeline or story.

Why is it important as a Black women to create?

As a black woman, I think that it is important to create because it's different, and not many people like to be different or stray away from a crowd or they don't like to stand out. Growing up, I didn't have a hard time making friends but I always felt the need to fit in, whether it be changing the way I dressed or straightening my hair to fit in but, as I've gotten older and strayed away from that mindset I've grown to learn more about myself as well as how to love myself for who I am as well as the skin I'm in.
