Who is Karalynn O?

My name is Karalynn O. I am 21 years old, from North Cambridge, MA.
I mainly create portrait photographs and other photography. I also do a good amount of videography for my YouTube, and Instagram handles. In my spare time, I create poetry, write songs, and work on The Wake Up campaign; which is a nonprofit I created in order to shed light on injustice around the world. We are currently aiming, through fundraisers and campaigning to service Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico.

How do you define a creative?
A creative can be anyone who uses their creativity in a positive way to expand the minds of others while putting their own vision out into the world. A true creative uses art to heal from wounds and to make themselves stronger. The best creatives care a lot about changing the world and challenging societal norms. This type of person usually creates because they love to do it.
What makes you a creative?

The art that I create, but also the way that I think, move and act in the world around me. I bet that a lot of my interactions and life experience would be different if I had no interest to create. I am a very open-minded individual constantly looking for new ways to expand my art and that's what makes me good at what I do.
It's not because I have all the equipment or the best education or the most money, its because I work hard at my craft every day and try to expand beyond what I've previously known. Without the hard work and dedication that I've brought to my craft, I would never be where I am today.

Why is it important as a Black woman to create?

As a Black woman, there are so many challenges that you face every single day. I would agree when Malcolm X said we are the most disrespected in America. But because of that, the only option is to rise from this struggle. Most times no one is going to take time to stop their journey to help you on yours, so you just have to push through. One of the best ways I do that is by connecting to art. Art can give you joy and happiness, the sense of closure you've been looking for, or the sign you've been trying to find. I believe a lot in healing through creativity.
