Our Story
The Chocolate Project is an initiative that centers the artistic expression and healing of Black women and femmes through community events. We believe that community and art is central to self-expression, healing and liberation.
Olivia Fenty started the project in 2015 for a number of reasons. First, to address the need for safe spaces centered on the Black femme experience, and our unique position within society. Black femmes are often lost in the cracks of conversations about Blackness and femininity, which leads to our harm being overlooked. Moreover, to convey more honest narratives about Black femmes that reflect all of our multifaceted voices, and experiences.
With this in mind, The Chocolate Project is a space where Black folks with any connection to femme identity can be heard and in community with other Black women and femmes. We also focusing on this community will necessitate the conversations, information, and ideals central to the liberation of all Black people.
