how do you define
a creative?

A creative is a person who expresses their original perspectives + experiences in alternative ways. We usually see musicians, poets, and visual artists as prototypical creatives, but the way creativity can be expressed is much more expansive.
~
Fashion, graphic design, video production and filmmaking, social media, engineering literally anything can be used as an avenue to express one’s creativity. I guess anyone can be a creative, especially if their imagination is what drives them to make some facet of the world (in any scale) better.

why do you create &
what makes you a creative?
Because I'm constantly inspired. Music and pop culture will always exist, and as long as it exists, I continue to be inspired to curate content on pop culture. That shit's interesting as hell.
~ Honestly, because I said so. My favorite quote of all time is from a Twitter icon Milfie (RIP legend) back in 2015 where she basically said, "I'm iconic because I said so. Act like an icon and people will start thinking you're iconic." It's about manifestation, and it's personal. Move how you want to move. I create, therefore I am a creative. It's really that simple. |

Being a creative allows you to have a certain level of control over something that life itself may deprive you of. As Black women, we aren’t completely in control of our destinies (product of patriarchy, racism, capitalism, etc.), so creating and protecting our creative spaces is essential to our sanity and survival.

Even though I said anyone could become "a" creative, I still feel weird claiming that title. Maybe because it's so new⎯we started “mood.” this summer, so it'll just take some time to fully accept that identity. Otherwise, I'm an Aquarius and we love doing the most to not be basic (sometimes doing too much lol). That innate desire to not want to be "regular" or conventional has driven me to always use my imagination and creativity in many areas of life, because that's the one thing no one can copy, or classify as basic⎯no one else has “it”

why is it important as a
black women to create?
Christelle: Black women need to create because our lived experiences are so complex but also super diverse. It comes with hardship and heartache and simultaneously so much light and beauty. I feel like that's the perfect recipe to create revolutionary shit.
~
Madusa: We need more content by black creatives for black people, especially for young black femmes. Representation is important and if you disagree you're wrong. There is space for black women creatives and it's important for it to be claimed. More black women in every creative space, period. If you're a black woman reading this and you're thinking about creating, do it. We need you.
