How do you define a creative?

To me a creative has the ability to get inspiration from a random thing and being able to create something beautiful from your idea.

Why do you create?

Picture
I like to think about different ways to do things. I’m more of an introvert, so if I’m not talking, I’m thinking. Sometimes, I may come across something unique or intriguing and I immediately think of way to try and incorporate it into my artwork. When I paint, I love to make sure I’m sitting in front of a window to gather sunlight or have a bright lamp right above my desk; the light gives me energy.

I may or may not have an idea in my head already, but I make sure to have my paint bottles lined up in front of me to think of new ways to mix and match different colors and incorporate ideas that have been floating in my head to paint onto canvas.

Why is it important as a Black woman to create?

Picture
Well I feel like it's a stress reliever. There aren’t always opportunities or times for us to create, so painting helps me to relax and get new ideas. I’ve always been interested in art since I was young, but I started Afros & Crowns in January 2018. I really took it upon myself to live up to the “new year, new me” tagline. I started to take art seriously and now I have worked on improving my skills and have inspired others to do the same.
