KAE.
Who is KAE?

My name is KAE. I'm 19 years old from Boston, MA but I've grown up in a few places. Also, I'm of Jamaican heritage and always will be !
I create music. I write all my music, anything I sing unless knowingly singing someone’s lyrics for a different project. Regardless, I still take a lot of control over what I produce. I can sing, I can dance, I can draw, and I can act. I truly have no other place in this world but here with my music and creative outlets.

How do you define a creative?
I feel like there’s so many ways to be a creative, it’s hard to really define it in one. Still I would say a creative is someone who explores their abilities in their own distinct way. Figuring out who you are through art, music, dance, entertainment, etc is like living in a different universe. Everyday I think about things I can do, and places I can be and how I will get there. I truly feel like a creative takes passion and expands it into so many elements of creation. A creative creates, and there’s so many things that aren’t created yet that need to be. Creatives run the world because without them life would be blank.
Why do you create?

I couldn’t stop creating if I wanted to. My brain speaks and thinks on its own most of the time. I’ve been singing since I was 3, I started dancing at 2 years old. My mother and my family are heavily involved in music and industry, so I’ve always been around the energy.
My mom played music every day, every day. Music has been in my life before I could even breath, I can’t help loving what I do. Writing and listening to my lyrics and singing my own songs brings me so much joy. Some people in this life don’t go after what makes them happy, they go after what makes others happy. However I’ve learned that life will be miserable if you don’t follow your destiny, and if your meant for something build on it; perfect it.
I love music and I’m good at creating it, why not get better and do better! I create because I love to, it’s the only thing that pushes me to be a better me.

Why is it important as a Black woman to create?

Black women don’t get enough credit as it is, and we literally have so much to offer the world. As a Black girl myself I get so proud to see other Black women win because we deserve it. In this society we have to work twice as hard, and we always do! No matter how what, we go hard because we ain’t weak. Far from it!
Also our ancestors were creators and even though things were bad, they created place of joy and music of light, dance to heal the pain was the way out. Dreaming was the way out. Creating as a Black person and more specifically a Black woman is so important because that’s our escape. It’s in our blood streams and history.
