How long have you been a healer?
"I started my business in December 2019 and have been offering healing services ever since. My slogan is “what I’m here to do is trigger the healing within you” because as a healer it is important to understand that I cannot heal anyone, I cannot repair anyone wounds for them but what I can do is trigger your ability to do it. Healing is a self journey that only self can embark on and I can help provide the necessary guidance for one’s journey"

How did you know healing was something you identified with + wanted dedicate yourself to?
"I always knew people were drawn to my energy. From strangers always confiding in me out in the street to me feeling like the Black sheep in my family yet the one whose breaking generational curses and healing my inner child, I started to gain a perspective about myself that related to being a healer. I know that when certain people come around me, they feel safe in my energy and I also know when other people come around me, they want me to dim my light because the shine is too much for them to handle. When I started embarking on my healing journey which naturally became a very spiritual one, that’s when I started to realize all these perspectives about myself.
The influence of my mom helped me realize how much I want to dedicate myself to healing work. She is a spiritual worker as well, so I grew up seeing things I didn’t understand then but understand now. She has definitely influenced my path with the many things she does. I feel that when I am healing myself, I am healing my family, my ancestors, my community because I am a part of all these designs and my healing journey is impacted by all of them. I would also say once I became aware of the many wounds I have, burdens I carry, generational cycles that need to be broken, although it is all challenging work that can be very dark, I knew that a lot of bullshit must stop with me and that I must allow myself to grow which further made it easier for me to commit myself to this work"

What has been some of the most fulfilling moments in doing this work?
"I have a lot of them that are very personal lol but one that I can share that is the most fulfilling is how quickly people supported my business. When I first announced it, I asked so much people to promote it for me and from that promotion, I gained about 5 clients in one week and that is how I knew I was doing something right and that I was supported in doing this work
More moments that are fulfilling and memorable to me as well are the donations I receive. When all of my services were donation based, people's donations would always be higher than $20 yet , I was advertising minimum donations to be $5. So, my donations always taught me to stop selling myself short and to know what I am worth and I would always remember that" |
How have you been practicing self-care during quarantine?
"I have been doing a lot of introspection, coming inside/self-reflection because I am aware of how much growth I should be experiencing and want to experience and to me growth is self-care because the more you grow the more aware you become and the more you realize how you should be caring for yourself. However, if I’m always doing shadow work, which I would briefly define as discovering parts of yourself you don’t talk about, I can drive myself insane if I’m insanely centered in my dark side so, I balance it out with self-love. I am always self-reflecting, and I am always loving myself.
I started to set up days where I only pertain to self-love. For example, Fridays are my days to take self-love baths, facial care routines, hair routines, affirmations day and I do this on Fridays because in astrology, Friday is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, sensuality, beauty, passion, etc. Sundays are also my self-care days and I chose Sunday as well because it is ruled by the Sun and the Sun brings light, warmth, peace, etc.
However, self-care must come every day, right? So, when it is not Sunday or Friday I still pertain to my mental health and loving myself. I give myself time and space when needed, I distance myself when needed, I take breaks when needed. I focus on doing several things such as praying or talking out loud, journaling, meditation, and breath work to name a few"

What aspects of your routine or ideas around self-care are informed by your identity as a Black femme or woman?
"Rest is an idea around self-care that I have been discovering ever since quarantine and mass protests started and as a Black queer woman, rest is my priority and is essential. We know that Black women are always portrayed as hard working, strong woman who could never be let down, who could never express their pain, and who are expected to go through hardships effortlessly.
My routine heavily incorporates rest as I have days designated to where I do absolutely nothing but that because my ancestors weren’t allowed to rest, Black women aren’t “allowed” to rest, the idea of rest is too easily associated with laziness within the Black community. We always working hard, even to do the simplest things so it is important to prioritize rest" |
How has being a healer influenced your ideas on self-love?
"Being a healer isn’t only about triggering healing within others, it’s being true to yourself so that you can relay truths to others and part of being true to yourself is digging up parts of yourself that you hide, disregard or need to pay attention to in order to heal (shadow work). With doing shadow work I quickly realized that I need to take care of myself to make sure I am affirming the life that I want and deserve and being the person that I want to be. Also, when working with customers in any business it’s priority to satisfy your customers and put them first. However, when being a healer with a business, you must put yourself first. You must prioritize self- care so that you can have the energy to work with others, the ability to work with others, and feel happy to work with others. So being a healer has definitely help me realize I have to take care of myself for myself and for others".
